The Tree Ark Project.
A Proposed Exemplar of Low-Impact Sustainable Design;with Visitor Centre Accommodating an Educational Resource Facility.First Community Site Location - Norfolk, UK.Original inception created for a client with woodland in Norfolk, and payment was to have been made in the form of a plot if a planning application had been successful. The clients decided not to proceed.
Having formed the sustainable community living project with the first nine households who fall into the requirements of the Local Authority Planning guidelines, we now seek an alternative site. (N.B. previously written 2008, update 2010, number in our intentional eco-community now bordering 150!)The following pages detail the proposals for The Tree Ark Project, with progress report to 2009, together with further detailing. While preparing the feasibility stage of this project, it became painfully apparent that, while the proposals could quite easily adapt to suit the replicable requirement of the Planning Guidelines, and while all proposed site income generation and land regeneration were completely in line with DEFRA, EEDA and even Agenda 21 guidelines - there was no grant funding available to the designer/founder of the community.Researching the element of "Proven Need" as required under planning guidelines, resulted in the preparation of a full report, from which the brief "Earth - Financial or Life Asset?" is taken. As funding was unavailable, and as research progressed, Global Ark Projects was formed as a non-profit distributing network hub, which would help others to form sustainable community living projects. The income generator for the Ark projects will be formed through commissions earned through "The Ark Directory", "The Ark Portal of Innovations" - and on the site of community living projects, of which "The Tree Ark Project" is an exemplar of this sustainable design. Each of the Ark Projects is a connecting limb to network with other charities, non-profits and NGO's.
Climate change is happening, whether or not the majority believe it to be 'man-made' or just another of Earth's own cycles, the future for all children - and the whole of humankind, is not looking favourable as we continue to construct traditional homes of concrete, and commute to work in our own cars. The following pages detail the continuing saga of Global Ark Projects (& Eco-Designs) exemplar of regenerative rural, sustainable community living projects. In order for our children to stand any hope of a tomorrow - and with climate change happening so much faster than had ever been predicted, we need to act in all speed in order to secure a future for them - all.
N.B. The video embedded below is shown as an example of a previously approved design for a visitor centre in woodland, which is based around and with the trees, and does not involve felling any good specimens to provide a base for the building. As such, I felt it was a design we would like to emulate at our first site, which was woodland.

The above film documents an exemplar which we would hope to emulate at The Tree Ark Project - we see this as a shining example of the work which needs to be inititiated to benefit all children, everywhere! See their homepage for more information:
